Five Classic Racing Games

Jun 11, 2018 | Stories

Ready, steady, go!

Racing games are among the most popular video game genres. Whether you enjoy driving at top speeds, cruising in luxury sports cars or competing against your friends, car racing games appeal to a wide range of players. This week, we decided to look at some of the most classic racing games.

Need for Speed: Underground 2

Customisable cars, multiple racing modes, engaging story mode and a wicked soundtrack are some of the reasons why Underground 2 is considered by many one of the best games in the beloved franchise. Endless customisation, fantastic gameplay, incredible graphics and the introduction of the “Free Roam” make this a game to remember.

Burnout Paradise

Unlike most racing games, Burnout Paradise is set in an open-world which allows players to freely explore the game’s environment. One of the standout features of this game is that as cars became damaged, they get slower and begin to fall apart. Avoiding crashes and allowing players to decide their own route to the finish line make this racing game an instant classic.

Forza Motorsport 3

Elements of a good racing game include fast cars, pleasant soundtrack and most importantly good gameplay. Forza Motorsport 3 offers all that and more. Officially licenced vehicles, real race tracks and an engaging career mode help to make this game a standout racing game. The game blends excellent gameplay and realism.

Asseto Corsa

Asseto Corsa could be classified as a racing simulator. The game attempts to realistically recreate car physics, real races and a driving experience truly unique compared to other car racing games. Add the wide range of modifications players can make to the cars and you have a truly immersive car racing simulator.

Mario Kart 64

Over 20 years old and still one of the most popular games of all time. Mario Kart 64 features Mario, Luigi, Bowser and more classic Nintendo characters in wacky racing game where no one stays in the lead for long. Along the way, players can pick up items to throw at opposing racers to get ahead. Dozens of colourful race tracks, a catchy soundtrack, and some of the most iconic video game characters make Mario Kart 64 a racing classic.
