A household name among 4WD overland explorers, Andrew St Pierre White is a busy man. When he’s not writing best-selling books, he’s on the road making adventure films for his massive YouTube following.

After a stretch living in England, a young Andrew St Pierre White’s family was ready to return to Southern Africa. They missed the bush and Andrew’s dad had a dream — to buy a Range Rover. That dream turned into a series of adventures that Andrew still undertakes to this day.
“Dad was an adventurous man and he’d take us into the wilds of the African bush in his four-wheel drive,” Andrew recalls.
“Don’t become too focused on having to buy fancy gear.”
Although he understands that the kit is fun, Andrew says going overboard with buying gear has become a bit of a disease. While the high end gear all have similar technologies and certain features that people love to have, it’s perfectly acceptable to keep your kit basic. If running on the basics is good enough for experienced overlanders like Andrew, then it’s good enough for everyone else — just ensure that all your gear will work properly before you set off!
Living life simply
Andrew and his wife Gwynn can speak with authority when it comes to living simply.
